It continued to be run and expanded by the family it occupied 17-22, Waterloo Place. After his death, his daughter Jane ran with other members of the family until she died inthe '30s when it was bought by North British Hotels who continued running it until 1976. Sometime afterwards it became Council Offices and finally it has reverted to a hotel, a Travelodge from where I am writing this email.
Mr. Darling also acquired the premises in South St. Andrews St. which became the St. Andrews Hotel, again Temperance. This was run by his niece, Isabella, until her death in 1942 but continued in the family for another two generations. I am currently researching both these hotels plus a couple of others that may have been connected with the Darlings and other members of my tree."
